EQI High School Preparation (HSP)
EQI High School Preparation is an intensive English program for students who need to improve their English proficiency before commencing EQI High School studies.
High School Preparation is designed to:
- Facilitate English conversation proficiency to the appropriate level for a High School student in Australia
- Coach students' English vocabulary specifically pertaining to EQI High School subjects
- Equip students with the study skills to achieve academic success when they continue on to EQI High School

High School Preparation is currently offered at selected EQI High Schools in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Entry Criteria and Curriculum
Each application for High School Preparation is assessed based on:
- The student's academic results in their home school system
- The student's proficiency in English
High School Preparation course structure caters to students of all levels of English proficiency. HSP can be structured over one or two school terms of approximately ten weeks each, and includes:
- 25 hours of English language instruction per week
- Maximum class sizes of 18 students
The interactive teaching style of the HSP curriculum encourages international students to practice English conversation with Australian students and teachers, and familiarises them with the subject-specific vocabulary they will encounter during their EQI High School studies. Some HSP course units include:
- English for Mathematics, Science, Technology and the Arts
- Listening skills for taking notes in class
- Analytical skills
- Excursions, sporting activities and much more!
Assessment
High School Preparation assessment is designed to prepare students for the assessment structure they will encounter at EQI High School. This approach ensures that HSP students are equipped with the best study skills to achieve academic success when they continue on to their EQI High School studies. Some typical assessment tasks includes:
- Essays
- Reports
- Oral presentations
- Research assignments
At the completion of High School Preparation, students must achieve the benchmark English proficiency according to the National Languages and Literacy Institute of Australia (NLLIA)
. Students who do not achieve the benchmark English proficiency may be offered the opportunity to commence an additional one-term course.
Upon completion of High School Preparation, students go on to study in mainstream classes within the Graduate or Study Abroad programs.
Accommodation
International students who are aged 14 years or older may enter a Homestay accommodation arrangement.
International students who are under 14 years old must reside with a close family relative, as defined by Division 1.2 of Migration Regulations
. These regulations define a close family relative as:
- A parent or step-parent
- An aunt or uncle
- A Grandparent or step-Grandparent
EQI will closely monitor the residency status of the close family relative to ensure the best possible care and support of international students who are under 14 years old.
Student Visas
All international must hold a valid student visa for the duration of their studies.

All students participating in an EQI Program must read and abide by the International Students Travel/Activities Policy. All EQI students must also submit a Travel Consent Form before embarking on any local, interstate or national travel during their EQI program.
