Tourist Visa Student Enrolment in Queensland Government Schools
School-aged children who are visiting Australia are permitted to attend Queensland Government Schools on a fee-paying basis for up to three months.
Who is eligible for Tourist Visa Student Enrolment?
To be eligible for Tourist Visa Student Enrolment, students require a Tourist Visa (subclass 676). This Tourist Visa allows students to study in Queensland for up to three months, and is issued by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship
.
Enquiries about Tourist Visa Student Enrolment eligibility must be directed to EQI. EQI will only accept enquiries from the child's parent, close relative or interpreter once the child has already arrived in Queensland.

Fast facts about Tourist Visa Student Enrolment
- The child's Tourist Visa must cover the entire period of school attendance
- Tourist Visa Student Enrolment is permitted once per calendar year per student
- Tourist Visa Student Enrolment can be up to three months (12 weeks) in duration
- Tourist Visa Student Enrolment is not permitted for consecutive school terms, such as Term Four followed by Term One
- Students attending school in Queensland on a Tourist Visa must attend classes regularly and comply with school rules
Accommodation
Students under 16 years of age must reside with a close family relative, as defined by Division 1.2 of Migration Regulations
. These regulations define a close family relative as:
- A parent or step-parent
- An aunt or an uncle
- A Grandparent or step-Grandparent
Close family relatives are required to produce documentation which proves their relationship to the child. EQI retains the right to reject applications for which appropriate documentation is not provided.
EQI recommends that students over 16 years of age also reside with a close family relative; however, these students are permitted to live with a family friend or distant relative. Parents of students who are aged 16-18 and want to live with a family friend or distant relative during their attendance at a Queensland Government High School must submit a Tourist Visa Parent Declaration Form to EQI upon application for the child's Tourist Visa Student Enrolment.
Homestay accommodation is not available to students holding a Tourist Visa.
Program Fees
- Fees must be paid in advance in one payment to Education Queensland International, for all tourist visa school attendance.
- Subject to the validity of tourist visas, attendance for periods in excess of two weeks and up to twelve school weeks (maximum period permitted) will be charged pro rata on a weekly fee for the particular year level. Attendance for any day/s of the week incurs the full week’s charge.
- A minimum payment of 2 weeks is applicable to all tourist visa attendees.
- No refunds will be made after the payment has been made to Education Queensland International.
- Once the initial application has been processed, no extensions will be permitted.
- An Application Fee of AUD$110 (inclusive of GST) per student applies to all tourist visa attendance applications submitted to Education Queensland International.

How to apply for Tourist Visa Student Enrolment
Prior to applying for a Tourist Visa Student Enrolment, parents must read and agree to the Tourist Visa School Attendance Guidelines for Parents.
Approval from the School Principal
Applications for Tourist Visa Student Enrolment at Queensland Government Schools are individually assessed by the relevant School Principal. It is the parent's responsibility to directly contact the School Principal of the Queensland Government School they would like their child to attend, and obtain permission from the School Principal for their child to attend the school.
Upon approval of the student's application, the School Principal needs to sign the parent's Tourist Visa School Attendance Request Form, ready to be submitted to EQI for confirmation and payment.
Confirmation and payment
Once the School Principal has approved the student's Tourist Visa Student Enrolment for their school, parents must make an appointment with EQI to arrange confirmation and payment.
Parents must bring the signed Tourist Visa School Attendance Request Form to the appointment with EQI, along with copies of the following documentation:
- Identification showing the student's full name, date of birth, place of birth and place of citizenship
- Visa Grant document from Department of Immigration and Citizenship (eVisas)
- Photo, title page and date of entry stamp page of the student's passport
- Photo, title page and date of entry stamp page of the parent's or close relative's passport (or driver's licence if applicable)
Parents of students who are aged 16-18 and want to live with a family friend or distant relative during their attendance at a Queensland Government High School must also submit a Tourist Visa Parent Declaration Form to EQI.
Upon confirmation of the Tourist Visa Student Enrolment, payment must be made immediately to EQI. EQI will issue a receipt for payment and send a letter of approval to the school.
Students on Tourist Visas are not permitted to attend school until the EQI enrolment process has been completed and fees paid.
